This is a Vickers Vimy - if you happen to be in Adelaide, it's near where the old airport terminal was. This plane - wooden propellers and all - flew from London to Australia in 1919 with four men on board in just under thirty days. I'm glad that flight times have improved...

Having seen pictures of this - a wooden propellered biplane - in the past, I had made some assumptions about it. Notably about its size. Well, it's about two storeys high... I had expected a little biplane, more like the size of the tiger moths which are probably what I've seen most of in the past. I was rather impressed.

This tiny little dude was, tail and all, no more than the length of my first two finger joints. I found him in the middle of a narrow thoroughfare in the house. He honestly looked like a bit of twig at first glance. I thought he wouldn't last long there so went to shoo him under the armchair or up the wall... and he climbed onto my hand. I was delighted :D And saw just how small he was. That tiny, tiny head actually has a whole skull in it... sounds obvious, I suppose, but it must be so very delicate.

As I could now move him further I went to carry him out to the courtyard, and he didn't want to get OFF. I didn't want to use any force as I was very aware it'd be easy to crush him, but eventually I managed to get him off and into the garden. I went to get my camera and found him just where I left him a moment later.

Isn't he cute? Little things like this really brighten a day :D
