I'm being devoured by mosquitoes in the night. I wonder if I can bring this into service to help fend them off?

I learned to solve another kind of sudoku today - I got the hang of it fairly quickly. What you see here, (modified to remove numbers as it's a geocache puzzle) is my first false-start. I didn't get too far and made a minor error. Second time went a lot better but about 2/3 the way through I made an error - the GPS co-ordinates produced by the puzzle were impossible. Once I worked out what the error was I was able to backtrack to just before that. Most sudoku don't really allow that, but because of the method of solving this I was using this kind of puzzle allows it. Anyhow. Third time I got it out without any particular difficulties. I put the co-ordinates through a checker and it turns out I was right :D I shall have to go find it soon...

Also, had dinner with my parents. Mum made a thoroughly awesome lasagne.

Some internet troubles last night, so you get two photos this evening... the first was taken on time, just didn't make it here.

Yesterday was mostly a work day, there were a few people away so I was kept rather busy. All good though :)

I did some geocaching today. Some of which was done in piney locations. I hope to make 200 caches before the end of the week. After today's efforts... three to go!

Some of you know, some of you don't, I work in a library in a community centre. I visited the drop-in centre to say hello this afternoon and was promptly drawn on :)

I was running about taking photos and experimenting with converting them to black and white tonight. It was rather fun!

This was my favourite, one of my oldest friends too...

The Secret Santa Cacher left something for me :D A wonderful pleasant surprise...

Another weekend photo today, because not much happened that was particularly photographable, and I've been too tired tonight to get all crafty.

On Sunday morning, before it was possible to get a hot breakfast anywhere, we passed through the homestead that Barnaby is staying in to drop off and pick up bits and pieces and to have coffee (very important). The location is fantastic - I took some photos including some of birds in the trees taken at 30x zoom. I could identify the galahs easily enough but this bird I wasn't so sure of. It was only when I viewed it on the monitor that I realised it was a bird of prey - I suppose being at the very tippy-top of the tree and not in a more secure position might have been a give away...

A bit of a look through some websites on Australian birds of prey leads me to believe this is a Black Shouldered Kite.

After a fantastic bacon-eggs-and-everything-else-too breakfast and a spot of geocaching in Jamestown I started heading back towards Adelaide. This photo is taken along a road in the Bundaleer area where I was doing more geocaching - shortly after I took this panorama shot I took a walk all the way to the very top of the hill in this photo. The view up there was spectacular but photos just don't do it justice. I can definitely recommend the climb though! It's not as bad as it looks - there's a path part of the way up that isn't too steep and the rest of the time I walked along the ridge of the hill. A bit longer, but not nearly so steep!

After finishing up caching in the area I continued home, stopping for two more caches further on, to visit a cellar door and to take a ride on a miniature train at the Hobbies Alive festival in Clare - I saw the signs as I was passing through town and thought it might be fun to check it out. The train in question was a fantastic replica of the old Glenelg trams. There were quite a few other trains including one absolutely stunning little steam engine which had stopped to top up on water and coal while I was at the station. The drive home was beautiful - the weather was much better than yesterday and it made the drive a pleasure. I must do this again...

Saturday's post, a bit late due to no internet availability then - I didn't even have mobile phone reception...

I drove up to Jamestown on Saturday, I really enjoyed the drive. I took this photo while I was taking a break from driving - I found that after a while I just had to stand up!

I haven't done a lot of country driving in the past but given this weekend's experiences I may just have to do more. I went up as I was asked to go to the Ram'n'Ewe ball in Amy's absence. Beforehand we went to a Soiree in an absolutely stunning house. The Ball itself was very loud but quite fun, the dancing was great and the people friendly ... so good despite the extra-noisy campsite while I was trying to sleep. It was more of a dance-in-a-giant-shed than a ball so I was a little overdressed, but that didn't really matter. The band - the door snakes - were very good if you ignored one or two lyric changes they made (I will never be able to hear a certain Ronan Keating song quite the same way ever again).

It was, if nothing else, quite an experience!

Excuse tha late posting - the wireless connection dropped out as I was trying to upload my photo last night and I couldn't get it up again. Most frustrating...

This was last night's dinner - I took some Mexican food ideas and Chinese food ideas and just kind of wedged them together into a sort of Mexican San Choy Bow. It was delicious :D

I made this prototype of a Christmas card tonight - exterior decorations are very simple, all the time's on the pop-up tree inside. I've found a better template since - if I'm not happy with that I'll make my own up. Then make rather a few of these... and some other designs perhaps.

Template came from here, note the illustrations don't match the template provided with the tutorial, it seems those nice tree shapes are cut using a rather expensive cutting machine and die set.

Anyhow, took a bit of working out some of the finer details but I just love this card. It's still a thrill opening it up and having a 3D Christmas tree right there :D

Another vintage postcard from my collection - I can't help it, I have to share them, they're too neat to stay tucked away in an envelope in a cupboard. I wonder if the tree is still there?

Fabulous photo colouring too...

No hat for Melbourne Cup day? Just a plastic headband and some storytime art cupboard supplies and YOU TOO can have a fabulous fascinator!

Even glue not required!

And in the workplace sweep (a totally money free event) my random draws came in 11th and 22nd. Oh well...

Almost got forgetful and neglected to post... sssh!

Another vintage postcard, this one with connections to the other side of the family. NO idea how old it is. Some of the postcards in this group are written on, others embellished, others totally blank. Includes a couple very old Christmas cards and all sorts. Really fascinating :)

Out for two meals today - with Mum and Dad and with the Grant family. I am spoilt :)

I managed to do some geocaching too, which was very nice. I had a great walk around the Prospect area and treated myself to a coffee and a macaron in a very nice cafe.

Mum's cacti have the most amazing flowers at the moment. These are ENORMOUS. At least hand sized, if not more (depends a bit on the hands in question I suppose)

Today I went to a geocaching halloween party and met a bunch of geocachers and had some cachey fun. In other awesome news, it's my 500th photo-a-day post. Woah O.o

I thought I'd showe you a postcard from my small collection of vintage postcards. This one, at some point, belonged to my great-grandmother.

Today we had a farewell breakfast at work - the person who has left will be missed. On the bright side, the cake pops went over very well! The rest of the day was somewhat chaotic and stressful at times but I got through it largely unscathed. Then went to a welcome back party for another person from work - had some great conversations. Then watched some Buffy with the housemates... now I'm exhausted. Goodnight!

When the cake pops book came into work I promised a friend at work that I'd make some to share when I got the book - but I'm still the third person down the reserve list, and it's her last day working with us tomorrow. So I found a recipe on this site and made them anyway. In three colours! Most of them worked - you can see one of the two notable failures in this photo... but all said I'm pretty pleased with the end result! I might have to try some fancier ones someday :)

Tonight, after I got home from the late shift, I felt like doing something crafty. I was going through google reader and found a link to a blog I hadn't seen before, and to the tutorial for these, which you can find here. The original is actually on a Japanese website linked there.

This was the second attempt - the first is fine but it's a bit undersized - and on the second I made some alterations to the template. I have no idea what I'll do with the card, but making it was fun!

Not a photo I took this time... I'm guessing it was taken in the fifties, but I'm not certain.

I have some empty boxes from moving, and it was time to get rid of a few of them. Amy helped. When opening the bottom of a box that had been used to store sentimental stuff for some years she found a photo tucked in under the bottom flap. I'm not sure where it came from, if it's a family photo... etc.. Also, it's very small. The original is only an inch and a half high and I've had to boost the contrast rather a lot to bring it a bit of clarity.

Whatever it is, it's an intriguing find. I love finding interesting things!
