Another weekend photo today, because not much happened that was particularly photographable, and I've been too tired tonight to get all crafty.

On Sunday morning, before it was possible to get a hot breakfast anywhere, we passed through the homestead that Barnaby is staying in to drop off and pick up bits and pieces and to have coffee (very important). The location is fantastic - I took some photos including some of birds in the trees taken at 30x zoom. I could identify the galahs easily enough but this bird I wasn't so sure of. It was only when I viewed it on the monitor that I realised it was a bird of prey - I suppose being at the very tippy-top of the tree and not in a more secure position might have been a give away...

A bit of a look through some websites on Australian birds of prey leads me to believe this is a Black Shouldered Kite.

Ever feel like you're being watched?

I saw this magpie while I was walking from work to my car. I wonder what he could see? Before I had a chance to get a crisper focus he was away...

You might have noticed I've been taking a few bird photos lately. My new camera just happens to be quite suited to it - more zoom and faster response time. But the photos don't always work out... the birds WILL keep on moving, so I get plenty photos of where a bird was. And in this photo (at 30x zoom) it was also getting a bit dark, which didn't help image clarity at all. I have much to learn, no doubt.

We've had a couple of chilly evenings this week. The birds got all fluffed up...

After some very Australian wattle yesterday, here's a very South Australian Murray Magpie. The other birds flew away but this dude just stood around warily watching me... and standing on one leg just to show how cool he really was.

Yeeeeeah. I'm tired. Time to go to bed before things get any crazier...

Did some geocaching with my sister and her fiance today, then, as it was still early, went out and did some of my own as well.

The first session led to an encounter with a koala wandering down the street - quick! Stop the car! Where's the camera? But that's already made it onto the internet.

So I bring you one of the many subspecies of black cockatoo, most of which are really rare. Whilst approaching a cache site I disturbed a small flock of these. As is typical, they're MUCH bigger than the more common sulphur-crested cockatoos. They settled in another pine tree nearby where I was able to snap a couple of pictures.

Made for a good day but I'm worn out now!
