A close-up of the orchids I showed you yesterday - it seemed a shame just to give a general impression...

At dinner I found out that a friend I have not seen for some time (who lives on the other side of the world) will probably be in Singapore at the same time as me. Hoping that schedules mean we'll be able to catch up! Given that neither of us knew when the other was travelling it's a surprising, but very pleasant, coincidence.

Busy day of work and netball, both of which were mostly good, also of playing cutthroat 500 which I do not get to play NEARLY often enough. We didn't manage to finish the game in the time we had, and I managed to be involved in all but one of the bids.

This photo was taken in Lucerne (Luzern) in Switzerland in October 2009. Despite a horrible cold I had a wonderful time there. I found the city quite welcoming and the whole city very pleasant. The food was fantastic too. I would have liked to go up into the alps, but unfortunately as my cold finally diminished the clouds came down over the alps. I guess that gives me a reason to go back again...

This was taken in 2009 of the fountain in Piazza Navona in Rome. Please excuse there being no new photo tonight. It's not been a good evening.

For those of you who saw my earlier facebook status, Spartacus didn't make it. A week ago I had a happy, flirty, wiggly, enthusiastic fishy friend. He took a turn for the worse a couple days ago and just went downhill from there. I'm going to miss you, Spartacus.

I'll be burying him in the morning.

Kind of like this guy in Dunblane Cathedral (photo: September/October 2009) I spent most of the day asleep. I was feeling very off so left work early - I don't like doing that but I was fairly useless feeling the way I was. So, as I was asleep instead of taking photos I thought it'd be as good a time as any to pull out an old travel photo. The day I spent in Dunblane was a particularly good one that's left a fantastic impression. It's a really lovely place :)

Now, back to bed with me.

From my last visit to Singapore - can't wait to be there again! Two and a half months to go. This was taken from the Singapore Flyer, cousin to the London Eye. Given all the building work in this photo, I expect the view will be quite different now.

It's most definitely autumn - the manchurian pears are really colourful just now.

I just booked myself flights to Singapore. Starting at midnight webjet had a sale, so I had a look and found a very nice deal indeed. It's high time I got a proper holiday again. I've visited friends a couple of times but this is quite different. I'll leave the day after Dad's birthday for just under two weeks.

Might take the opportunity to take tours to Malaysia and Indonesia. I'll have twelve days so it'd be quite doable. I could also see a few of the Singapore sights I missed last time - a theme park has opened since then, and I never did go to some of the other sights. And I definitley have to have another Singapore sling at Raffles.

I felt a little nervous booking flights so spontaneously but it's currently in-budget so... why not?

... I was one of a lucky 100 to get an opportunity to have a book signed by Terry Pratchett - and to say hello. I felt very fortunate, I didn't think that I'd ever get the chance. Judging by the stamps and stickers, I dare say that there have been issues with forged signatures - but there are certainly no doubts about this one!

(I didn't get Thud signed in the end... I thought that a paperback might not have the greatest life expectancy and I definitely want this to last...)

And though the time has now ticked over to the 19th and the signature was in place on the 17th this is still the photo for the 18th as I took it then! My story, and I'm sticking to it.

Back home in Adelaide after a great weekend of friends and fun :)

On the way to see Terry Pratchett and Garth Nix we stopped at the Guylian cafe for some rather decadent hot chocolates. I wasn't able to get photographs during the event, but as my rather excited posts the other day told... (see last photo in this four-post catch up series...)

The first of four catch-up posts going up tonight... on Friday I flew to Sydney to spend the weekend with two friends and to go to a Terry Pratchett event at the Sydney Opera House. On Friday night we got to play a few games, including Three Dragon Ante, which turned out to be a really great game.

We had a Chinese banquet for dinner. It was delicous. And there was enough left over for tomorrow's lunch too.

Off to Sydney tomorrow, back on Monday. I may or may not be able to post during the trip. If I can't I'll have a catch-up post on my return.

Whilst I'm going to try to cut back on pictures of objects taken at the last minute (^.^;;) this one is not without purpose.

Because as I said earlier on Facebook, I've won an opportunity (one of 100 people) to meet Terry Pratchett and get a book personalised after a show in which he will be interviewed by Garth Nix in the Sydney Opera House on Sunday. I'm thinking I'll take Thud, because it's my favourite Discworld book. I'm not totally decided though. I keep looking over and seeing the Discworld comics and Unseen Academicals too...

Also, I will get to spend the weekend with friends over there. So it's shaping up to be a pretty awesome weekend.

Photo 299? But that makes tomorrow... O.o

Right then.

Today, after work, I headed into the city and found myself this. Got a rather good deal if I do say so myself. Now I have to imagine all the places I want to take it! First is the weekend trip to Sydney, of course, but there is so much more world that I would like to see with it.

A trip I'd like to do... is to fly to Hawaii, then on to Argentina (spending time in each, of course) before taking an Antarctic cruise from there. I'd love to see some of the other North and South American countries, but I'm not sure what kind of budget that'd require so I'll have to see...

*dreams on*

Today... a step back five years in time to a pretty town in Scotland. I don't recall what it was called, but it was nice there :)

The Colisseum, from the inside on an exceptionally wet day in Rome - October 2009

Closing in on 100. This calls for something special. Not sure what yet.

Ah, Paris! (Oct. 2009)

Spent a very nice evening with my sister but didn't take any photos...

Stirling, Scotland September 2009

I love the detail on the buildings you see throughout Britain and Europe. Some of the most curious things, great stories behind some too. You just don't get much of that here. Except perhaps for Beehive Corner... I should get a photo of that some day. If I can find a decent angle.

Do any of you in Scotland know anything about this one?

London, early October 2009, Tower Bridge at night. Camera steadied on the edge of London Bridge. Heh.

I did take photos today but my cable is playing hide and seek, a game for which I am too tired. Tomorrow.... ^.^;

Piazza Navona, Rome. October 2009.

One wet day reminded me of another... I went on a colloseum/forum tour that day but it was cut short due to incredible rain. We had blackouts today, but many were worse hit. All in all wild weather. Luckily nothing worse than a few potplants blown over.

In Dunblane, just behind the cathedral. Isn't it idyllic?

October/November 2009, Singapore Zoo.

One cannot have too many tiger photos. That said, I had a lot to choose from.
