Today I got a new camera - it'll be nice to use something other than my phone camera again... after looking at a few models and reading reviews (and finding prices for the shop to beat) I bought a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100V. It was the model that best met my criteria and reviewed better than comparable models, and has a bunch of features that sound like a lot of fun. Arguably best of all it has a manual focus ring. I've been dreaming of one of those on a non-SLR for some time.
The camera is now fully charged and I've taken some experimental shots. I'm only using the basic auto mode just now, and as it's quite late the lighting was very poor. Yet still I have already got the best photo of one of my fish that I've taken. It's not perfect - his face is out of focus. But the colours are fantastic with absolutely no editing whatsoever. I normally have to at least twitch the gamma, and under artificial light I usually have to play with the colours too.
He's a lovely fish, but evidently being an experimental photo model angers him. But with better lighting and some practice with the features I think that I will get very good results indeed.

When I got home this evening this handsome fellow was swimming around in my aquarium. His blue markings have a metallic sheen so he looks quite different depending on how the light hits them. I must decide on a name for him - I've been considering Hermes, Adonis and Finn, but I'm not entirely settled on one name... I guess I'll sleep on it, or maybe something else will occur to me... at any rate, he has been exploring his new home very thoroughly. Must be tiring!

Oh dear, it's a very saucy photo tonight.
After being called in for work today, I made tomato sauce! I've been wanting to do this for a while now but needed both the time and appropriate tomatoes. The four kilos I have been ripening up for a week have made a sauce that, on first tasting, has come out particularly well. With a mouli I think I would get more and thicker sauce, but nevertheless, I am very happy with this! There's something really great about having something you made yourself instead of the supermarket off-the-shelf option.
Also... Dad cleaned out my fish tank, bleached it and so on... apparently he wanted to have a new fish in it tonight but the water is still too chlorine-y from the bleach, and will have to wait a few days. I wasn't expecting any of this, and I just need to say, as I'm sure I've said before, I have a fantastic and very thoughtful Dad ^.^
