Mum found a spider in an impressive web tonight. I took some photos, zoomed in on one... and realised I was taking a picture of its underside. I went to walk around the clothesline, but before I got there, I found another web with an even larger spider. I had to crawl about a bit to get to the right side of the web without disturbing the spider, but got there in the end. I took quite a few photos, many were fuzzy. I had to use the flash because the breeze was moving the webs too much for a slower shot. I also have to work out how to manually trip the focus flash so I can use manual focus in darker situations. Does anyone have any advice here? Though I got some decent shots I'm sure there's a better way.

Anyhow, as I got relatively close for this shot (the first image is cropped a fair bit though) I can offer you a further close-up of the same shot.

Good LORD he's terrifying! What type of spider is he, do you know?

It's a garden orb weaver. Not venomous to humans but plenty scary looking.
